Bioeconomy is sustainable use of renewable natural resources, during which the added value of products and services is continuously increased. At the same time the impact on the environment and climate change is reduced. Example – currently Latvia is rich in forest resources and sustainable management of forests could create products with high added value and additional workplaces.

The project outcome is developed unique vocational education program module on climate change and adaptation. Project results indicator – improved state, local government and public awareness of climate change and adaptation issues.

Project topicality:

The developed training module will not overlap with existing training modules, as currently Latvia has not created a learning module that simultaneously focuses on socio-economic aspects in system dynamics analysis of climate change and adaptation and bioeconomic development principles adoption and implementation of economic sectors. Bio-economy is the sustainable use of renewable natural resources, which is continuously increased during the products and services of added value, but at the same time, a reduced impact on the environment and climate change.

Project aim:

The project aims to create an innovative training systems for the reduction and adaptation of climate change socio-economic aspects, based on bioeconomy development analysis. Will be developed and organized training courses as engineering education program module in order to raise awareness and channel knowledge to specialists about climate change forecasting analysis models, about the possible usage and for development of the state sector from the bioeconomy aspect.

Target group:

Primary target group of the project is audiences professional in climate field, local government representatives, educators, vocational secondary education students and students in higher education institutions. Target group includes existing and future workforce: state and local government workers, research and educational institutions representatives, businessmen and representatives of non-governmental organizations, as well as the people, who prepares new workforce. The selected target group of the project is part of the community from whose knowledge, understanding and consequent action the development of bio-economy and with it the amount of GHG emissions and their impact on climate change.

Results:

Project implementation will be obtained with a triple benefit. The training module is mainly focused on climate education and at the same time reveals bioeconomies nature and the importance of the development, with an emphasis on socio-economic problems. With the development of the bio-economy should be possible to reduce GHG emissions, because of non-renewable natural resources are replaced by renewable biological resources that prudent use would create added value and from them would be made eco-friendly products throughout their life cycle.
